Marriage was 1/29/1923.

I have deleted the birthdates for the children who may be living
because this is a public site. I got this data from the 1930 census as
well as JC birth and death records.

He could be one Mr. Itchy feet. I'm told that a lot of the Rhodes had the wander-lust gene. Wild-Cat, or George Luther Rhodes was the one in on my side. However, his uncle was Benjamin B born in or around 1836.

Thanks for the marriage record info for Andrew & Sally. I'm still
working on finding Andrew Thornton & Benjamin Rhodes in 1850. I'm
told Andrew's on the index in Wayne County, Ohio. Not sure if this
will help me or not. I sure wish Heritage Quest had the 1850 census!

In 1840 Andrew seems to be in Monroe Twp, Knox Co, OH and Benjamin
Rhodes is next door.

Can anyone tell me about Sally RHODES? Who are her parents? Did she
have a brother, Benjamin?
I found a Benjamin RHODES living with Andrew & Sally THORNTON in 1860
and 1870 in Hicksville Twp, Defiance Co, Ohio. I'm trying to verify
Benjamin as a brother of Sally. Benjamin & Sally are born in
Pennsylvania. I was told there is a marriage record of Andrew
Thornton (b. WV abt 1812) and Sally or Sarah Rhodes (b. PA abt 1810)
in Jackson Co, WV. Does anyone know of this marriage?
I'd also like to find Benjamin Rhodes on the 1850 census. He
should/might be between 50 & 55 years old. (1860 - age 65 1870 -
age 70) Andrew J. Thornton and Sallie are found on the 1880 census in
Harding Twp, Polk Co, Wisconsin. Benjamin isn't with them. Any clues
would be appreciated.

The Rhodes from Alabama, I think are related way back to the Rhodes from West Virginia. However, I think there are a few Rhodes from Alabama in my family tree on my father's side. He was a Newsome from around Russell County Alabama. Do you also have Newsomes in your tree? I hear you shake a stick out in Alabama without hitting a Newsome.

Yesterday I joined a yahoo group for Rhodes family members doing
research. Please, bear in mind, that I am still a novice at this.I am
trying to research my grandfather's family on my mother's side. She
was born in 1938, her name is Francis Ann Rhodes, her father Frank
Raymond Rhodes, born July 1909. His father was George Luther Rhodes
born 1888, his father was George W. Rhodes, better known as "wildcat"
for his wandering ways, born in 1856. His father was named David D.
Rhodes, unknown birthdate, married to one Cymantha or Samantha
Pringle. All of the above, as near as I can tell, were born and raised
in West Virginia, presumably in or around Mason and Jackson counties.
George W. at one point was married to one Virginia Harrison and he had
a brother named Samuel who was married to Drucilla or Druzilla
LaMasters. George Luther was married to Nancy Elmore Rhodes, (shh,
family secret, they were first cousins). If any of these names ring
bells with any of you, can you please contact me and share any
information you may have? I am having a very hard time getting started
on this branch of the family. Thank you and I look forward to hearing
from you.

Since Virgil was married to Mary F on 5/6/1910 and the twins were born
on 4/26/1910 to VW and Florence and they were living with Virgil W and
Nellie in 1920, I am going out on a limb and guessing that Mary F was
Mary Florence, and that she died and Virgil remarried - whatcha
think? She would have been the daughter of Granville Tolly and
Elizabeth Southall, born 11/1883, JCBR.

I have listed two sons Blaine and Basil. Is this the same Virgil Rhodes or is there two? :) and the Jackson Co birth records lists their mother as Florence. A cousin thought Basil was the s/o Virgil s/o Harrison & Emily Litton. Maybe Florence and Mary are the same and another case of using their middle name because of so many Marys.

Died July 1, 1994 at St. Francis Hospital after a long illness. He was a former employee of Moese Cadillac with 40 years' service and meat manager for the Kroger Co. with 25 years service. He was an Army veteran of WWII and a Methodist and attended United Gospel Mission, Charleston.
Surviving, wife, Rada Lanham Rhodes, daughter Miriam Rhodes of Charleston.
Service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Long-Fisher Funeral Home, Charleston with Rev. Clarence Edens officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Gardens of Memories, Pocatalico.

There are 3 Bertha's in the Jackson Co birth records
1. Bertha 9/1/1906 d/o D. w. & Mary Rhodes Hogg, WV
Bertha Blanche 1/10/1888 J. S. & Elizabeth Rhodes Jackson Co. Farmer
Bertha M. 9/16/1897 d/o A. B. & L. B. Rhodes Gay Farmer.

The latter is not in any census but there is a Bert b. 6/1897 in the 1900 census and latter married int he 1930 census and living with a brother.
