Betty,
Could this be Charles Daniel Rhodes son of Daniel D. Rhodes Jr and Sarah Elizabeth Richardson, from Benjamin Rhodes and Nancy Golden Line? He was born 1-26-1888 Jackson Births

I have Serena Ann Tolley, the daughter of Christopher Tolley and Elizabeth Goff married James Lewis Rhodes on 9 October 1848 ; Rockbridge Co. Va..  James was born about 1828 and Serena born about, 1830. They had at least 9 children.
Christopher was the brother of John H Tolley who married Rebecca (Margaret ) Rhodes.
I am trying to get James fit into the Rhodes family somewhere.

Charles and Nancy had twins 4/25/1869 - Marietta and Aranon L and Leona S, 3/22/1882 in Roane Co and none of these three show up on any census. In 1900, she'd had 11 and 8 were living. They had no children listed in 1870, so the twins must have died. Leona isn't with them in 1900 and I don't see a marriage for her in either Roane or Jackson, so she may be the 3rd who died. So these three along with the 7 others listed in the censuses, make 10.

I just noticed something - I'd copied the 1880 data from the JCHS transcription - where it does state that the children, Louisa M and Isa D, both granddaughters, belong to Charles B and Nancy - but when I just did a search on my 1880 CD for Rhodes males born in 1869 plus or minus, it came up with Louis M, a grandson - not a girl. Do you think he is the Melvin who was listed with them in 1870? Louis Melvin is a far cry from Aranon L who would have only been 1 in 1870. Richard was born in Oct 1870, so maybe she was having a hard pregnacy, but to leave him there permanently? I wonder if Melvin was Nancy's - Charles' sister, not his wife? Born out of wedlock?

As for Isa D, I can't find her in 1900, no do I find a marriage in Jackson or Roane. So she could belong to Charles and Nancy and just there visiting, but it seems like they would have listed her, also. They had Sarah and Hiram, ages 5 & 3, so she would have been a tight squeeze at age 4. I think it's more likely that they had one between William (1879) and Charles (1886) who died, but who knows!

I just hate to trust the notes in the JCHS transcription. There's just too many mistakes.

I don't know when they moved to Clay Co or how long they lived there, but I'll bet some of the kids were married there. Richared is the only one I've found in Jackson.

And in 1900, Nancy is also listed with her son Richard.

Oh Joann,
I thought you would know. A wild thought is there just initials with the marriage license is just the initials A. B.Rhodes. Could it be different names than Albert Baxter? My grandfather (Miles H. Rhodes brother of Albert Baxter that married Barbara Litton) bought his property at Higby in Oct. 16, 1891. The land is by Silvester Rhodes (s/o James C. M. & Anna Casto Rhodes), J. F. Cobb (Julian Franklin his future brother in-law) and Charles Moore. It says the land was granted to James C. M. Rhodes by Mary Buen on Dec. 15, 1883.

Albert Baxter s/o John W. & Anne Eliza Margaret Rhodes md Barbara Litton Feb. 14, 1897.
Albert Rhodes md Sarah Caroline Cobb Feb. 8, 1883.
A. B. Rhodes 34 Jackson Higby Roane md Minnie Parson 23 Jackson Frozen Camp 11/21/1893

Age wise the only possiblities are Albert Baxter b. 1859 s/o of John W. & Anne, Eliza Elizabeth Rhodes or the Albert b. about 1859 according to 1860 census(I don't have a middle name) s/o John W. & Lucinda Parsons Rhodes. I have an 1860 Roane co census for them. If this Albert went to Texas than did Minnie go with him? Or did she die and Albert Baxter marry Barbara Litton.

In 1880 Jackson James C. M & Ann Albert A. is 19 (10 in1870, 6mo in 1860) so is he Sarah Caroline's.

I have to point out that the Roane Co birth records have the wrong age for Miles when he married Meilssa. He was 17 years older than her. What would be nice is a Bible for each family that has the births, marriages and deaths in it.

Enough rambling Do I make sense?

Hello Ladies,
I saw my name back a few messages ago and thought I had better get  in on this discussion. I do not have anything for the Albert, son of James C.M. Rhodes and from what I have read or think I have read this Albert was married to Sarah Cobb. For Albert, son of John Woodard Rhodes and Lucinda Parsons, I have that he went to Texas. And for Albert Baxter I have that he married Barbara Lee Litton. Now who in the heck is married to Minnie Parsons? I haven't been on the
site for a few days and see what happens!!! JoAnn

I haven't been on the site for a few days and see what happens!!! JoAnn

William, who is the daughter you spoke with?

The birth of Daniel Webster Rhodes, son of W B & Rebecca, was recorded twice, 6/25/1905 and 6/25/1907. I think the 1905 date is correct, don't you?

Daniel Webster Rhodes, son of William Mathias and Pernina was born 1/17/1898. Just close enough together to confuse us.

Does anyone know who Pernina's parents were?
