Thanks, Joyce! Ancestry seems to be missing some chunks of different
censuses - mostly the ones I want. :)
Alma has to the the child who was listed as Delpha in the birth
records. I find a marriage for Alma Gay Rhodes, 21, Roane, to Ralph
Raines, 23, Roane, in Roane Co, 15 June 1929. Is this her?
Also one for Inel Rhodes, 19, Roane to Ross Carpenter, 20, Roane in
Roane Co, 10 Sept 1929.

Could this be Emma I?
And a marriage in Jackson Co - is this Gordon's or another Ora?

Thaks a bunch Betty! You are a great lady. I have an obit for Lake. I have been
looking for the 1910 censu for Albert and couldn't find it. :) So brother Daniel
went from being with his parents in 1900 to with his brother Albert in 1910. He
(Albert) was the brother that my dad said moved to Braxton Co. Lafe came back to
Jackson Co in the end. Wonder if Albert & Barbara are buried at Little Birch
too?

Sue,
I don't have a date on the obit or where it is from. Just found it in my parents
stuff. I think he was b. Nov. 4, 1910 which would make it 1975. I have an obit
for his sister Ava that is where I think I figured it out.

It looks like she was born in PA. Every Rhodes in Mason Co in the 1850
census is on the same page with her, except for one and he's on the
page before. There is a Joseph married to a Charlotte, but he was only
45, kind of young to have a child who was 29.

William King 35 VA
Lydia 29 PA

Diana 5 VA

There is also a Cornelius King:
1850 Mason Co VA # 71-72
Cornelius King, 25, VA

Diana, 70 OA
Elisha 27 VA
Is this William's brothers and Mother and was she Diana Hall who
married Cornelius King? That would be so nice and tidy.

I've corrected that, Sue, thanks to the obit posted elsewhere.
The biggest problem with taking someone else's word for truth - you
end up with errors in your work. I'm not sure we have enough sourced
data to be sure about a lot of these daggones Rhodeses, but if we all
contribute bits and pieces, maybe we'll fill in the whole jigsaw
puzzle. We may even all get the pieces in the same places. As long as
my keyboard has a delete key, I'll be making corrections. :)

This is from "The History of Harper District" by M A. C. Hopkins.(b. 1856
written at age 75) It was published in 1929.
"The largest water grist mill in Harper District is the one near the mouth of
Trace Fork built by Parrott Ferrell, now know as the Peter Rhodes mill. Peter
Rhodes was born in Rockbridge County, Virginia in 1807. He was of German
descent. He came to Ripley as a young man and married a Miss Board. He soon came
to Harper District and boughnt the Ferrell mill. Here Mr. Rhodes spent the last
days of his life. He was a great violinist and enjoyed many old tunes. He died
at the age of 116 years. We had the pleasure of visiting Mr. Rhodes a few months
before he died and it was very interesting to hear him relate many incidents of
his long life."
Hopkins was postmaster at Red Knob and wrote many deeds and contracts. Later in
the article his goes on to say:
Uncle Peter Rhodes told me a few months before he died that he built a log cabin
here in the woods and sold it to a young man by the name of Noah Westfall.

I found a note in some of my other notes that old "Peter" Rhodes was
in the Rev War which was the line that settled in Jackson co. VA. It
must have come from someone in the 60's, but I didn't keep all my
sources at that time. It may be something to check into.
