seven or eight children, who resided in Canada and the United States.

My gr. grandfather Richard Allen Rhodes married a MARY FRANCES

NOSEWORTHY., and they too had eight or so children, scattered throughout

Canada and the USA. My grandfather RICHARD ALLEN Rhodes/Croudy married a

JOHANNA TURNER and before there divorce they had apparently one child my

My Grandpa was born and raised in Hillsboro Ohio. He lived in Fremont Ohio after him and my Grandma got married. My grandparents had 13 children, 9 of which are still living. My Grandpa had brothers named Richard,Ova Idas,Joseph,Ernest and Thomas. And sisters named Edna Rhoads Alcart and Ruby Rhoads Everetts, and Mable Gracie Rhoads.
Thomas,Ova,Joseph,and Ernest all lived in Hillsboro. And Edna,Richard,and Ruby all lived in Burgoon.

My Great Great Grandparents David and Minerva Rhoads are buried in Belfast Ohio. And there are also a lot of the Rhoads that are buried in Dunker Ridge Cemetery.

1. Christopher Rhodes, born 1759 died 1838 in Enoroee, Spartanburg, SC, married a Sabra Freeman, she born 1770 and still alive in the 1850 census of Sptnbg.


2. Their son James, born 1790, died 26 Sep 1864 also in Sptnbg, marries a Lavinia Brown, she dies 1872. Did not find them on the 1850 census.


3. Son Benjamin Freeman Rhodes is born 21 Jan 1823, death date unknown. Is still living in the 1880 census for Sptnbg. He marries Mary Ann Crowe, she born 08 Mar 1835 in SC, and dies 18 Oct 1881 in Spartanburg. Have not identified Mary Ann's parents. Many Rhodes in Spnbg in 1850 census, but don't know which children belong to whom.


4. Daughter Nancy Mary Rhodes is born 06 Jan 1861, dies 21 Sep 1949 in Spartanburg. She marries a John Huckabee, probably around 1895. Cannot place information on John. Their children are William Oscar 1900, Horace 1896, Ernest, and Mollie, possibly two other females.


5. William Oscar Huckabee born 08 Feb 1900 in Spartanburg, dies 09 May 1943. He marries Alice Morris, born 10 Jan 1906, dies 18 Oct 2000. Their children are Mary Blanche, John D., and William Paul.


6. Mary Blanche is born 11 May 1927, and is still living, however suffering from advanced stage of Altheimers (however you spell it). She married a G.B. Loyd in 1945 and they had one son, Bruce.


7. Bruce Loyd presently lives in Spartanburg, wife Sandra Gwinn Loyd, they have two children, Lori Michelle (who is my daughter-in-law) and Brian.


8. Lori Michelle married Jason Lonon in Aug 1998. They have one daughter, Abigail, born Nov 2001 (my grand-daughter. She is the one I am doing the family for.)


Would be happy to share with anyone the census info I have found so far on the Rhodes in Spartanburg. Maybe they can figure out all of the families and who belongs to who.

Man, our Rhoads people were a prolific and wandering bunch. I have been searching my Rhoads folks who had a moving company in Phila in the late 1800's. They were a family of 7 brothers. It so happened that my gr.grandfather, John, got mad and moved to NYC where he married a Portuguese woman named Anna Agusta Dorothea de Fratis. My grandfather, also JOhn E Rhoads was born in NYC in 1907. The next child was Charles Haas Rhoads born 1909 in Delaware, the next Alfred Fratis Rhoads b 1913 in Cambria County, PA and the youngest Anna Dorothy called Dorothy was born around 1914 in Corning, Steuben County, NY. My gr.grandfather John was a sign, banner painter. They traveled alot. My grandfather and his brother Charlie ended up working as painters for Corning, Glass Works, now Corning, Inc. Both retired from there in the late 60's and early 70's. We were an interesting bunch. The creativity and artistry remains in the family.

Thanks for your message. I'm not sure yet how to get more information about

the Rhodes family before 1790 in Virginia, and probably in Pennsylvania

before that.

Lydia Rodes (married Riley Armentrout in 1840). She was the daughter of a

Jacob Rhodes (Roads, Rodes), who was the son of a Philip. They lived east

of Harrisonburg, in Rockingham County, in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

Jacob Rhodes was born about 1781, but I don't know where he or his father

were born, possibly in Pennsylvania. There is a Rhodes cemetery in

Rockingham County. I suspect they were Dunkards at the time.

Lydia was my gg-grandmother.
