  !By the 1900 census for Andrew County, MO Thomas was hea d o f household and a farmer. In 1910, he was still livin g in Andrew County, bu t was now employed as a salesman a t the St. Joseph stockyard. About 1916, he mov ed to St. J oseph and was still employed at the stockyard. He lived a t 2205 Fran cis St. Later in life, he was confined to a wh eel chair because of a stroke . Madeline Gore Steeby rememb ers hearing that Thomas got his name when Conf ederate troo ps were nearing the Gore farm. Fearing for her family, Eme line tol d some troops that his name was Thomas Stonewall J ackson Gore, hoping that bei ng named after a famous Confed erate General, that the troops would leave the m alone.
