The cemetery is also commonly known as the Old Austin and Pethoud Cemetery. John Pethoud deeded the land on which the cemetery lies to the Trustees of the Austin Creek Cemetery Association on April 11, 1877. The cemetery was named after the settlement of Austin located nearby. The post office of Austin was established November 5, 1858 and was discontinued April 14, 1864. There are 37 known individuals buried in this cemetery. The cemetery was placed on the the abandoned cemetery list of Gage County on December 20, 1977. Boy Scout Troop #221 of Beatrice currently maintains the cemetery.
