Dear Madam:

  Reference is made to your letter relative to Anthony Rhodes, who served in the Revolutionary War.

  The data contained herein were obtained from the papers on file in the Revolutionary War claim for pension, S. 14285 based upon the military service in that war of Anthony Rhodes.

  Anthony Rhodes was born October 21, 1761 in Warwick, Rhode Island.  The names of his parents are not shown.

  While a resident of Warwick, Rhode Island, Anthony Rhodes was enlisted in October 1777, and served about three weeks as private in Captain Rice's Company, Colonel Cornwall's Rhode Island Regiment  He enlisted March 16, 1778, served as private in Lieutenant Demison's and Captain Thomas Carlisle's Companies, Colonel Elliot's Rhode Island Regiment of Artillery; was in the battle of Rhode Island and was discharged March 16, 1779.  While a resident of Voluntown, Connecticut, he enlisted in August 1780, and served about one month as private in Captains Gallup's and Latham's Companies, Colonel Ledyard's Connecticut Regiment.  He also served one month on an alarm in 1781, as private in the Connecticut troops, names of officers not stated.

  After the Revolutionary War he lived in Volumtown, Connecticut, Paris, New York, Bridgewater, New York, and Winfield, New York.

  He was allowed pension on his application dated August 14, 1832, at which time he was a resident of Winfield, Herkimer County, New York

  There are no family data.

  This is the record of the only Anthony Rhodes, all spellings of the names searched, that is found on the Revolutionary War records of this office.

  In order to obtain the date of last payment of pension, the name of person paid and possibly the death date of soldier, you should apply to the Comptroller General, General Accounting Offices, Records Division, Washington, D.C., and cite the following dates: "Anthony Rhodes, Certificate No. 897, issued October 22, 1833, rate $45.34 pur annum, commenced March 4, 1831, Ast. June 7, 1832, New York Agency.
