    On this first day of May 1855 before me, a justice of the peace in and for the county and state aforesaid personally appeared Christopher Rhodes aged about 63 years who being duly sworn according to law. Declares that he is the identical Christopher Rhodes who was a private in the company commanded by Cap David Rowlan (and afterward by Joel Rowlan) in the Regiment (no. Not recollected) of Virginia Militia commanded (as well as now recollected) by col McDowel that he was drafted in Botetourt County in the state of Virginia on or about the fifteenth day of September 1814. He further states that he has received for said service Bounty Land Warrant No, (not recollected) of forty acres issued under the Act of 1850, by reason of said service which he has since legally disposed of and cannot now return.
    He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the additional Bounty Land to which he is entitled under the act of the 3rd March 1855, never having received Bounty Land except as above stated, and he hereby constitute(?) And appoints A. Waugh his atty to prosecute his claim and procure his warrant.

    We enclose herewith papers in the care of Christopher Rhodes of this county a claimant for bounty land under act of Sep 28, 1850. Please acknowledge the receipt of them.

    On this 20th day of December A.D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty two personally appeared before me a Justice of the Peace within and for the county and state aforesaid, Christopher Rhodes aged sixty years, a resident of Jackson County state of Virginia who being duly sworn according to law declare that he is the identical Christopher Rhodes who was a private in the company commanded by Captain David Rowland in the 5th regiment of Virginia Militia in the service of the United States 3rd Brigade commanded by Colonel James McDowell in the war with Great Britain declared by the United States on the 18th day of June 1812 that he was drafted at Fincastle Botetourt County Virginia on or about the __day of August 1814 for the term of three months and continued in actual service in said war for the term of three months to wit from the 1st day of September 1814 to the 1st day of December 1814 and was honorably discharged on issuance of orders from a Major General Winfield Scott commanding the 10th military district at Cross Roads, Maryland on the 1st day of December 1814 as will appear by his original certificate of discharge herewith presented.
    He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the bounty land to which he may be entitled under the Act granting bounty land to certain officers and soldiers who have been engaged in the military servicer of the United States passed September 28th 1850.
