[Curtis Rhodes was born in Sampson Co., N.C., died at his home, 5 miles north of Darlington Court House, S.C.  The shock of bringing home from Richmond the body of his son Robert who died of measles in the Civil War and finding his son-in-law, Peter Byrd, a corpse was too great a strain and he shortly developed pneumonia which proved fatal.  Curtis & his wife are buried in the old Flowers Graveyard, 1st burying ground for Swift Creek Baptist Church, Darlington Co., S.C.  This record furnished by Eugene Rhodes, Florence S.C.]

[This was copied from the old family Bible by Geo. W. Vaughn for Mrs. Thos. C. Eller, grand dau. of Jesse & Martha Rhodes.  This copy was sent to the compiler in 1954 by Estella Toll.  She had it from John J. Rhodes, son of James W. Rhodes.  The spelling of the name Jessie for a man is most unusual, but Miss Toll said that was the way it was sent to her.]

[This record is taken from a Book of Sermons published by the Methodist Society of New York City in 1804.  It was found by the compiler in the possession of her cousin, Mrs. Wanda Aldridge Turner of Birmingham, Ala.  It was once the property of Joseph Rhodes and passed from him to Sarah Rhodes Bracken & her husband, Edward Bracken.  Joseph Rhodes, Sr. m. Rachel Pearson in 1792 in Rockingham Co., N.C.  The county record is pub. In a DAR magazine and is also in the State Archives at Raleigh, N.C.  That record verified the date in the family record.  Rachel Pearson was the dau. Of Sullivan Pearson & his wife Elizabeth.  Sullivan Pearson left a will in Rockingham Co., N.C. & among the children is Rachel.  Joseph Rhodes was the second son of John Rhodes who left a will in Guilford Co., N.C. in 192.  Rockingham was taken from Guilford.  John Rhodes went to Orange Co., N.C. in 1755 from Orange Co., Va. And later went to Rowan Co., N.C.  He was in Guilford when it was cut off from Rowan & Orange.  Many items on him are in Rowan and Guilford and some in Rockingham.  He furnished supplies in the Rev. War.  The compiler is a desc. Through Sarah Rhodes who married Edward Bracken in 1835 in Lawrence Co., Ala.]
